With the pony car wars heating up, Ford is not giving up just yet. With the base Camaro's 3.6L engine pushing out 304hp, Ford felt that it needed something comparable in the base Mustang. At the 2011 LA Auto Show, Ford did just that, introducing a 3.7L V6 engine pounding out 305hp, and boasting an EPA rated 30mpg on the highway. The new Duratec 3.7L V6 includes Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (TI-VCT) for increased performance and fuel economy. Also two new transmissions are available; a six-speed automatic along with a six-speed manual, though the manual's fuel economy suffers slightly. There is also a Performance Model slated for release in August. It includes dual exhaust, 3.31 axle ratio, along with a few suspension upgrade from the GT and GT-500. Could 2011 be the year of the pony car? I guess we will just have to watch Ford, Chevy, and Dodge to see where it all goes from here. (Photo from Autoblog.com)
